Windy Hsieh
Hi! I'm Windy, a bi-racial military brat - born in Asia and raised for 17 years without roots stationed across the US and overseas. I am also a survivor of childhood sexual trauma, managing co-occurring substance abuse and mental health disorders. I have traced my mental health and substance abuse issues to childhood trauma and toxic family of origin. I know, it's a lot to juggle, but I bet my story sounds familiar, right? I have attended years of in-person therapy and Intensive Outpatient Groups for Major Depression, Anxiety, PTSD and poly-substance abuse. (For the record, if anyone tries to take my caffeine addiction away - that's a hard NO!) At one point, I was incarcerated as a result of my substance abuse and found myself trying to figure out how to kill myself in jail. I survived by getting intensive treatment, researching alternative/complementary therapies to medication and finding support groups to share my story. I am learning to love myself, discover my true identity and find some moments of peace and laughter along the way. If there is anything I can do to support and prevent another person from slipping into a dark hole contemplating suicide...I've been there. It's why I got certified as a PRSS. Let's talk, let's try to laugh and let's heal together. Ps- I LOVE knitting (it helped me quit smoking), I HATE chores (my house is a mess) AND I'm trying REALLY hard to stop swearing (as much) this year

What I Hope to Share
I am certified as a PRSS in Reno, NV and run several in-person support groups. I have experience working as a PRSS for the State of Nevada Department of Health and Human Services and the 2nd Judicial District Court, Specialty Courts. I have learned the importance of managing my nutrition, exercise and sleep to keep my mental health stable. I hope to share what I have learned with a larger online community and make some friends to help fight the Stigma that faces those of us in recovery.
What Brought Me to ShareWell
I have always attended in-person support groups. A recent ankle injury prevents me from driving and I have limited walking mobility. In other words, I am temporarily disabled. I decided to jump online to get the social support I need and meet new friends in recovery that are also struggling with identity issues.
Host Reviews
"Windys class was compassionate, authentic and raw. Tackling topics such as stigma of being in the prison system with mental health issues. Let there be REFORM in our prison systems. Let people come out BETTER than they went in!!!! Thank you, Windy for holding space for us!"
"Excellent support!"
"This was the BEST sharewell group I have attended so far! Our host was very kind, compassionate, caring, and sensitive. Our group was very small, but full of wonderful, like-minded women that care about one another. We want to hear what each other is going through, and this platform is perfect!"
