Izzy

As a daughter of a narcissistic mother and someone who has endured religious trauma, I want you to know this first: you are not alone. I was born and raised in Pakistan and have navigated my own journey through anxiety, CPTSD, depression, and dyslexia. For a long time, I carried guilt, confusion, and the quiet feeling of never being fully seen. Therapy was a meaningful and supportive part of my healing, and I’m grateful for the clarity it provided. Over time, I also began attending peer support groups, where I experienced something deeply transformative, being witnessed by others who showed up vulnerably and met me as an equal. That sense of shared humanity shifted my healing in profound ways. I originally trained and worked as a medical doctor, but I came to understand that my heart was in creating spaces centered on connection, presence, and lived experience.

Understanding neurodiversity

Neurodiversity acknowledges that there’s no single way to think, learn, or process information. Whether you’re autistic, ADHD, dyslexic, or otherwise neurologically diverse, finding community can be transformative. Peer support connects neurodivergent individuals in ways that foster self-acceptance and empowerment. Sharing both challenges and strengths helps reduce stigma and promotes a world where all kinds of minds are celebrated.

Why it helps

How a Peer Specialist helps with neurodiversity

A Peer Specialist helps with neurodiversity because navigating a world built for neurotypical people can be exhausting and isolating. A 1-on-1 session offers belonging, shared language, and affirming conversation about what it means to be wired differently.

Frequently asked questions

What does a 1-on-1 neurodiversity Peer Specialist session talk about?

Topics often include masking, burnout, sensory needs, diagnosis journeys, accommodations, identity, and what it is like to navigate a neurotypical world.

Do I need a formal diagnosis to book a neurodiversity session?

No. Many people book while exploring whether neurodivergence fits their experience. The focus is on shared understanding, not diagnostic criteria.

How is a neurodiversity specialist different from a general mental health specialist?

Neurodiversity specialists tend to be more affirming of brain differences rather than framing them as problems to fix. The conversation centers lived experience and identity.
