Whether you are in Fort Bliss, Socorro, Horizon City, Las Cruces or somewhere else in the Borderland, ShareWell has live online support groups for people adjusting to life after the Army. El Paso is built around the post, and a lot of soldiers finish their service and stay for a spouse, a job or the mountains, only to find that leaving the uniform is harder than they expected.

Every group meets online by live video, so you can join from home.

These online groups start during the day and evening in Mountain time, so they fit a day near El Paso.

Local life

After the Army, in a city built around the post

Fort Bliss brings soldiers through El Paso year after year, and many of them marry into local families and settle on the east side or in Horizon City when their enlistment ends. The structure that organized every day disappears overnight. The friends from the unit scatter to other posts. A civilian job can feel pointless after the work you did, and the things you carry from deployments do not have a place in a normal conversation. Spouses who held everything together through the deployments are now living with someone who is home but not fully back. In a city this close-knit and this far from the rest of Texas, it can be hard to find people who understand, and the pride of the service makes it hard to ask.

Why it helps

How peer support helps near El Paso

A peer group gives veterans and their families a room where the military years do not need explaining and where nobody flinches at the hard parts. You join from home near the post or out in the county, in Mountain time, and the group holds steady from week to week.
