Understanding traumatic brain injury

A traumatic brain injury, or TBI, can change how a person thinks, learns, feels, acts and sleeps. Some people have lasting problems with concentration, memory, headache and balance, and relationships with a partner, friends and family can change.

Why it helps

How peer support helps with traumatic brain injury

Peer support can help after a brain injury because feeling alone and misunderstood is common. A group lets you go at your own pace with people who are patient.

What traumatic brain injury groups often cover

  • Feeling that people do not understand you
  • Memory and concentration problems

  • Relationships that changed after the injury

ShareWell groups are peer support and do not give medical advice, so please keep working with your care team on anything about diagnosis or treatment. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
