The career you keep restarting with every move

The bases bring families to the Springs for two or three years at a time, and the service member arrives with a job, a unit and a schedule. The spouse arrives with a resume full of gaps, a license that may not transfer to Colorado, and a circle of friends they have just said goodbye to for the third or fourth time. There is a particular grief in being good at something and never being anywhere long enough to be known for it. Kids change schools, the house is a rental again, and the service member is often away at training or deployed, which leaves one adult handling the altitude headaches, the winter driving and the dinner table alone. The city is friendly, and churches and spouse groups try, but it is tiring to start over again when you know you will leave again.

Why it helps

How peer support helps near Colorado Springs

A peer group gives you something that does not change station. You join from base housing or a rental in Monument, and if orders come, the group comes with you to the next post and the people in it stay the same.

    Frequently asked questions

Do I need to live in Colorado Springs to join?

No. Groups are online, so you can join from Fountain, Monument, Fort Carson, Manitou Springs, Woodland Park, Falcon, Pueblo or anywhere else in southern Colorado.

What happens to my group when we get orders?

Nothing. The group is online, so it moves with you, and the times adjust to whatever zone your device uses at the new post.

Is this a military family program?

No. ShareWell is open to everyone, and the spouses and partners on this page join alongside civilians who have made their own hard moves.

Can my service member join too?

Yes. Many members' partners join their own groups, and the PTSD and trauma pages are a good starting point for someone back from deployment.
